ICEAP Toronto Campus
The International Centre for EAP has opened its first campus in Toronto. The other 3 are located in Nova Scotia. This location is set to provide students with better services and a different studying experience while living in a big city. For the sessions beginning in January and March, many students have chosen to start their international studies in Toronto.
In March 2015, our Toronto campus started running a homestay program. Our staff worked hard in order to fulfill all the requests from the new students. Our Host service providers have been carefully selected taking under consideration a few requirements, such as: They must be native speakers of the English language; must be willing to learn about different cultures and share their own and should also be located in a convenient and safe neighborhood. Student safety is our number one priority, with that in mind, all of our host family members who are over 18 years of age are required to have a negative criminal record. After that, our staff provides our homestay supplier with information about the available ICEAP programs and detailed information concerning their new student, for better welcoming their "new family member". In the future, our ICEAP campus in Toronto plans to organize several activities for both host families and students, in order to promote a better interaction between them.
With past experience in student guidance, the Toronto campus decided to divide the initial orientation session in 3 different parts. The first part is a general information session, which includes the Canadian political system, its economy and culture; also, geography, transportation; personal safety, banking system, etc… The second part is an academic orientation, which includes the EAP courses, homework, attendance policy, exams, copyright infringement, etc… The third part is a student leadership orientation, which is delivered by current MED class teachers and students. The purpose of this orientation is to help new students "warm up" their English skills and learn from the experience of current students.
In addition, the Toronto campus organizes a series of activities for new students. Every Friday afternoon, the school staff takes them around for city tours: from Toronto landmark – CN tower, to provincial parliament or Aquarium… Our campus also has a partnership with the Toronto Public Library, so each of our students can get their own library card. This card is accepted in all the 99 library branches around the city and allows its members to borrow up to 50 books or video materials each time. Also, every Tuesday afternoon, our school has a movie presentation and board game club for students to enjoy.
In March 17, ICEAP Toronto Campus held a "St. Patrick's Day hamburger party". Everyone wore Green to celebrate this traditional Irish festival. All the students had a great time together!
Green symbolizes vigor and hope. ICEAP! We believe in a brighter future!
